Meet our new Chair, Ninder Johal

Ninder Johal became Chairman of the Business Growth Foundation in May 2016. An entrepreneur at heart, Ninder is the founder and Chief Executive of Nachural Music Ltd, a highly successful SME based in the Midlands. After spending his early career working for GEC and then Lucas before establishing his own businesses.

He is a tireless and widely respected campaigner and advocate for SMEs and recently completed a stint as President of one of the UK’s most prominent Chambers of Commerce.

Ninder has a clear vision for how we can create an even better business environment for them in this country.

During his tenure as Chair of the Black Country Chamber of Commerce, Ninder was ideally placed to get under the skin of the SME sector, its strengths and weaknesses and its complex, disparate nature. He quickly realised that there was a need for an increased understanding and support from the government to support SMEs, and that their growth and prosperity should be pushed much higher up the political agenda.

Some of Ninder’s key priorities as Chair of the newly established British Growth Foundation (BGF) are:

·       Drive the development and implementation of new policies to support economic growth in the UK SME sector

·       To challenge the burden of regulation and bureaucracy for SME business owners

·       Take an output driven approach to supporting increased productivity and investment in the UK SME sector

As an established SME owner operating internationally, Ninder has experienced the challenges of breaking global markets firsthand. He has heard from his colleagues in the SMEs sector that there is a profound, common fear of trying to break export markets, in unfamiliar environments with the risk of failure and lost revenue. As Chair of the BGF, Ninder aims to work closely with the sector and its representative bodies, with the central aim of seeing more SMEs gaining access to the support and assistance they need to cross borders with confidence.
