Keynote Speaker Announced For Nachural Entrepreneurship Awards 2017

Nachural are pleased to announce the keynote speaker for the Nachural Entrepreneurship Awards 2017 is founder of Experian PLC, Sir John Peace.
Sir John’s other roles include being Ex-Chairman of Standard Chartered, Ex-Group CEO of GUS, the current Chairman of Burberry, the Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire and the Chairman of the Midlands Engine.

We at Nachural regard it is a real coup to have secured Sir John Peace as our key note speaker at the inaugural Nachural Entrepreneurship Awards on the 24th Nov 2017 at Leicester FC.

To have somebody of the calibre of Sir John Peace attending and speaking is testament to the quality of the event.

Sir John is an established businessman who has achieved much in business both nationally and internationally. We are looking forward to hearing about his fantastic journey at Great Universal Stores (GUS), Experian, Standard Chartered and Burberry, but also his thoughts on The Midlands Engine.

Brief Bio:
Sir John W. Peace is Non-Executive Chairman of the Board of Burberry Group PLC., since June 2002. He is also Chairman of the Nomination Committee. He is Chairman of Standard Chartered PLC and Experian plc. Previously he was Group Chief Executive of GUS plc from 2000 until 2006. Sir John is Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire and was knighted in 2011 for services to business and the voluntary sector.

Sir John Peace is now part of the City establishment – chairing three FTSE 100 companies: Burberry, Experian and Standard Chartered.

When he was growing up in Nottinghamshire, the only son of a coal miner, Peace always wanted to be a soldier, but instead of a life in the military, Peace worked his way through the corporate ranks at GUS and earned his spurs when he helped set up the credit-checking agency that became Experian in 1980.

The 65-year old joined GUS, a vast empire of businesses that used to be known as Great Universal Stores, after three years at the Sandhurst military college.

He was named chief executive of GUS in 2000 after the long-standing boss Lord Wolfson retired. Peace went on to sell and buy 50 businesses at GUS. He floated off the retail chain Burberry in 2002 – which he still chairs – and the Experian business in 2006.

Peace keeps close ties to Nottinghamshire, where Experian employs more than 2,000, and finds time to be the Queen’s representative in his home county, where he holds the official title of Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire.

He set up a youth employment fund when he was high sheriff of Nottinghamshire in 2011 and was knighted in the Queen’s birthday honours in 2011.
